What is the Open Coffee Club all about?

It is an attempt to establish recognized, open and regular meeting places where entrepreneurs can meet with investors (and anyone else who fancies coming along) in a totally informal setting. The key is a regular place and a regular time - it's not important who comes along, some days it might be no one - just that people know if they want to meet, this is the time and this is the place.

Pixel 4 Startups – Advertising as Recessionbuster

A new project is about to start and will probably go online end of the month. Pixel 4 Startups takes up the idea of the Million Dollar Homepage. One pixel will cost 1€ for one year and 2€ for a lifetime ad. The minimum ad size is 5×5 pixel. 70% of the money will be reinvested into start-ups. Start-ups will be able to apply for amounts up to 50.000€, but smaller shares are also possible and welcome.

The difference to the original is certainly that the money will be mostly re-invested. Another difference will be that a large tool-tip will appear, when somebody hovers over an ad, so that even small ads will have a better exposure.

What do you think of that idea? Would you buy an ad? Tell us your thoughts and get a free 100pixel ad for 6 months…

Our business is based on trust and transparency of transactions

Yesterdays 4th Mayo Open Coffee Club Meeting showed that despite tough times laying ahead, the entrepreneurs of Mayo are willing to take on the challenge.

After a few words of welcome by Liam Horan and an introductory round, Niall Marren from forgottengold.com gave a presentation of his new business venture. The native Sligo man started his Galway-based gold for money recycling business last year and has since been able to withstand the effects of the credit crunch, which has now turned into a full-blown recession. “Our business is based on trust and transparency of transactions”, Niall concluded and encouraged other entrepreneurs to follow that track. He also added that customers want to have a “warm buzzy feeling” when dealing with companies. This is unfortunately in harsh contrast to the way most businesses were and some still are dealing with their clients. The consensus was, that these days it was easier to do good business, than it was 2 years ago.

After the presentation a quick Q&A was held, which lead over to a more general discussion about internet marketing, twitter, search engine optimisation and the use of social networking events.
