What is the Open Coffee Club all about?

It is an attempt to establish recognized, open and regular meeting places where entrepreneurs can meet with investors (and anyone else who fancies coming along) in a totally informal setting. The key is a regular place and a regular time - it's not important who comes along, some days it might be no one - just that people know if they want to meet, this is the time and this is the place.

cmypitch – Connecting Entrepeneurs and Investors through Videopitch

cmypitch is a very intereting concept in which entrepreneurs connect with investors through the means of video pitches. It seems to be serious operator with endorsements from the likes of Eddie Jordan (F1), Philip Lynch (IAWS, One51), Patrick Brazel (former Chairman of Irish Software Association), James Morris (Windmill Lane, TV3), Tony Kilduff (Kindle).

Partners also include: Bank of Scotland (Ireland), Deloitte, The Irish Times, Microsoft and William Fry. So if you are looking for funding, this seems to be a good opportunity.

Gaining Momentum

Yesterdays Meeting came as a surprise with regards for new faces. As I said a few weeks ago, we have new people coming in every time. After having seven new last time, another seven joined the MOCC this time, bringing the total numbers of people, that ever attended to 52.

plus two more… But unfortunately “the dog ate the list”, so please tell me who I forgot :-)

After an interesting introductory round, I wanted to know from the new people how they had heard about the MOCC. The answers showed that apparently the word is spreading: through Twitter, castlebar.ie and “Irish Business Women” were the answers this time. Unfortunately it appears that it is unclear, what the Open Coffee Club Idea is about, so we will have to do some more marketing and branding … I could need some help with this, so again I want to ask, who would like to join me as organiser?

This time the meeting was kind of formal, which added to the dynamics of the meeting. We were in th Royal Theatre Pub, but moved from “Study” to the back part of the Pub, to give us more space. After turning down the volume of the TVs we had a few tables arranged, which at first gave a little feeling of a board meeting. But it turned out to be a very good decision, as the discussion that came up was very focused.

The main question was, how we can increase the awareness for the MOCC to attract more people and as a result maybe even some “investors”. A few ideas came up, which we will discuss and implement further over the coming days. So stay tuned!

I will not be there at the next MOCC in the IiBC, as I have to go to Germany. It would be great to have somebody telling us about his business, business idea, presenting useful tools or whatever might be interesting for the others. You can still get in touch with me, so I can organise things from a distance. Get involved! You can do it!

Mayo entrepreneurs and investors get together over coffee

Press Release:

Entrepreneurs, investors and venture capitalists from all over Mayo – and further afield – are invited to attend forthcoming Mayo Open Coffee Club get-togethers being held around the county.

The Open Coffee Club concept, first established in London, allows for informal meetings between entrepreneurs and investors. It is completely free of charge, apart from paying for your own coffee, and the aim is to let people share business ideas and possibly potential tie-ups.
