What is the Open Coffee Club all about?

It is an attempt to establish recognized, open and regular meeting places where entrepreneurs can meet with investors (and anyone else who fancies coming along) in a totally informal setting. The key is a regular place and a regular time - it's not important who comes along, some days it might be no one - just that people know if they want to meet, this is the time and this is the place.

Laura Ní Eachnacháin, Gnó Mhaigheo; Cillian O’Mongain, www.cillian.ie, Ciarán O’Murchu, UISCE and Michael Thornhill, Maithú; at the Club Caife Business Networking event with Mayo Ideas Lab, Belmullet on 12th March

Club Caife, an Irish language themed networking event for businesses was held in Ballina, Belmullet, Castlebar and Claremorris to coincide with Seachtain na Gaeilge.

There was a very positive response to each Club Caife throughout the county and in the true spirit of networking; business was created, new ideas discussed and contacts made.

Michael Thornhill of Maithú Software presented his software package ‘Get the Focal’ and spoke of how networking and the Irish language have helped his business grow. Interestingly a number of businesses that attended reflected Michael’s experience with the Irish language and stated that using the Irish language has also been good for their business.

Due to the positive response to the Club Caife a network has been created with the aim to expand and provide services to the members such as translations, advice, marketing opportunities and knowledge. Marketing opportunities that exist include the Gnó Mhaigh Eo on-line business directory. This is a directory of businesses and organisations in Mayo that can provide their service through Irish. Businesses registered to date range from solicitors to shop keepers to hoteliers to web designers.

This event was hosted in partnership with Ballina Chamber, Claremorris Chamber, the Innovation in Business Centre and Mayo Ideas Lab.

If you would like anymore information on Club Caife or if you would like to be a member of the business directory please contact Gnó Mhaigh Eo on 098 26555 or at eolas {at} gnomhaigheo(.)ie.

2nd MOCC with entrepreneur Michael Thornhill from Maithú

image001We are very happy to announce that Michael Thornhill from Maithú will be our guest speaker on the 2nd Mayo Open Coffee Club in the Innovation in Business Centre, GMIT in Castlebar on the 11th of March @11.30am

Michael will tell us how networking helped him land his biggest deal with the multinational company, Samsung to whom he sold his software package for phones; ‘Get the Focal’, a mobile phone application which provides over 12,000 English-Irish translations for off-line use. This application is ideal for Irish language students, parents, teachers, or anyone interested in the Irish language and as Des Bishop said “Get Focal’d!”

We are equally happy to be host to the Club Caife on the 11th, which is a networking event that will give local businesses an opportunity to network with each other in an informal setting and also to learn about opportunities that are available to market their business in a unique way using the Irish language. The Club Caife will tour the County from March 9th to 12th:

  • Dalton Inn Hotel, Claremorris – 9th March
  • Ballina Library, Ballina – 10th March
  • Innovation in Business Centre, GMIT, Castlebar –11th March, 11.30am
  • Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet – 12th March
